Family Memories
Day 91
I have had a few strange things happen, mostly since my parents have passed away. Nothing bad or scary, just little signs letting me know they are still with me. Finding pennies and seeing rainbows at appropriate times are the big ones.
I did receive a text message on my birthday from my dads phone. He passed away on January 7th and my birthday is January 9th. I was really upset and on my birthday my phone beeped that I had a message. John read it and it was from my dad wishing me a Happy Birthday. At first I was a little upset thinking John did it which was silly because he was sitting next to me. My mom was with Johnathon getting a CT scan and my dads phone was left at home and to top it all off they had phone only, no text service and neither one of them had ever sent a text. They were not very good with electronics. John and I went over to my moms house and looked at my dads phone no sign of anything being sent. We called their provider and they said they don't have text service and nothing showed in their records. I can't explain the message but I know I received and have saved the picture. I read it from time to time.
The first day of our Florida trip (when we took with the entire family) when we were leaving the park there was a huge rainbow shining down. Amanda and I found the two pennies while fishing and two pennies found at the pumpkin patch, just a few little things that I would like to think are messages from heaven.
I think the only scary thing that has happened to me was in our current house, a few years ago and it was probably a really bad nightmare. John and I were sleeping and I felt something over me. Like someone was staring at me. I opened my eyes and there was this ghost like figure hovering over me. I tried to scream but only little sounds would come out but just enough to wake John up. I couldn't move for a few moments. It was like I was paralyzed. I don't think I have ever been so scared in my life. I chalk it up to a bad vivid dream. John says you never know.
We did stay at the Buxton Inn in Granville, Ohio which is suppose to be a haunted hotel and I was hoping something weird would happen but it didn't. It was an awesome hotel very old and but very nice.
Buxton Inn History:
Buxton Inn was originally called the Tavern and it was built by 1812 by Orrin Granger. Today, the Buxton Inn is oldest continuously running inn in Granville, Ohio. Aside from being an inn, Buxton also served as Granville’s first post office and a stagecoach stop. The Buxton became very popular and was patronized by no less than President William Harrison himself. After Orrin Granger died, ownership of the inn changed. Although it went through several owners, it never closed down because of its popularity.
In 1829, more additions were constructed for the building. In the 1850s, the inn was purchased by James W. Dilley and it was renamed to “The Dilley House”. Major Buxton and his wife acquired the property in 1865. They attracted many guests and the inn continued to thrive under their ownership. After the death of the Buxtons, retired opera singer Ethel Bounell took over the inn. The current owners of the inn are Orville and Audrey Orr.
Reported ghost stories:
The Buxton Inn’s long history lives on with the ghosts frequently seen there, the majority of which are the ghosts of its former owners. The first ghost ever reported at the hotel was Orrin Granger in the 1920′s who built the hotel in 1812.
During the 70’s, workers of the inn saw a man dressed in blue and since then they have refused to enter the inn after dark. Major Buxton (the man who the inn was named after) is also said to haunt the inn. He has been spotted in several locations around the inn.
Ethel “Bonnie” Bounell, the former innkeeper, is said to have died in room number nine. Guests who have stayed in the room have reported seeing a lady dressed in blue, Bonnie’s favorite color. Shadowy figures have been seen in rooms number seven and nine and even in the basement. Guests have also felt the presence of a ghostly cat jumping on their beds.
Other reports include heavy doors slamming shut and opening of their own accord, with no apparent breeze or other valid explanation. People have also reported hearing footsteps behind them in empty hallways, and their names being called out.
All very interesting.

Making Memories
Birthday date with honey.
We had a great time last night. We went to a restaurant down by the Galleria Mall in Dallas, called Del Frisco's. It was our first time eating there and it was very good. We started with a glass of wine, strawberry margarita and a crab-cake. They also served really warm bread with whipped butter and we had some of this with our salad (we shared). The house dressing was fabulous. Then we both had the surf and turf. For dessert they brought out a huge piece of lemon cake for John and I to share but my weakness is Crème brûlée. Oh, how I love this! So, even though the cake was plenty big for two, I passed. Very nice company and very good food.
Then we were off to Theater 3 to see the play. We saw Assassins, which was pretty good but a lot different than what I expected. It was very politically incorrect but funny. It was a musical play really. There is something about seeing people act in front of you that is really fun. I think you see more personality. Pretty cool. When we were leaving it was pouring down rain, so having the driver was nice. He pulled right up to the door everywhere we went and it was nice being able to have conversation with John instead of worrying about Dallas traffic. Definitely, a 5 star night.
Happy Birthday, Honey. I love you!
